Sea Scouting is a branch of Scouting which provides Scout training with and through water-borne activities, using river,
lake and sea, as well as forest and mountain, as bases for outdoor and adventurous activities. This branch of Scouting
Ireland is divided up into five sections based on different age ranges. The Sea Scout programme is driven forward by
the young people involved in the programme, and is facilitated by a team of adult leaders, known as Sea Scouters, who
are trained with the necessary skills to enable the programme to take place in a safe, fun and rewarding environment for
the young people. If you are interested in volunteering as a Sea Scouter, then contact us by clicking on the “Contact us”
link in the menu on the left.

Beaver Sea Scouts is the first of our sections. The emphasis is on interacting with young
people of their own age in a
programme based
around fun and discovering. This section is for 6, 7 and 8 year olds, and
introduces the young people
to the Scouting
Ireland Sea Scout programme, giving them a firm grounding in Sea Scouting and
preparing them for
higher level
activities in later Sea Scout sections. There are currently two Beaver Sea
Scout Troops in our Group.
Rambling River
Beavers meet on Tuesday evenings, while Riverbank Beavers meet on Thursday
evenings before the
Falcon Sea Cub Troop meeting.

Cub Sea Scouts is the second of our sections. As a Cub Sea Scout a young person becomes a
member of a 'Watch' (a
group of six to
eight Sea Cubs) within a Sea Cub Troop (5 or 6 Watches). Cub Sea Scouting is
for 9, 10 and 11 year
olds, and is about
fun, adventure and challenge but it is also about learning by doing. It further
develops the young
people in the Scouting
Ireland Sea Scout programme, giving them a strong foothold in Sea Scouting and preparing
them for even higher
level activities in later Sea Scout sections. There are currently two Cub Sea
Scout Troops in our
Group. Asgard Troop
meets on Wednesday evenings, while Falcon Troop meets on Thursday evenings.

Sea Scouts is the
third of our sections. As a Sea Scout a young person becomes a member of a ‘Watch’
(a group of six
to eight Sea Scouts)
within a Sea Scout Troop (usually 5 or 6 Watches). The Sea Scout section is
aimed at 12, 13, 14
and 15 year olds,
and is a high activity section where the young people plan, lead and
participate in their own activities.
Each Watch is lead
by a Watch Leader, with the aid of an Assistant Watch Leader. The programme for
the entire Troop
is both planned and
implemented by the Watch Leaders Council. There is currently one Sea Scout
Troop in our Group.
Harbour Troop meets on Friday nights.

Venture
Sea Scouts is the fourth of our sections, and is for 15, 16 and 17 year olds.
As a Venture Sea Scout a young adult
becomes a
member of the Sea Venture Executive, a body comprised of only Venture Sea Scouts,
and which runs everything
in the
section, from finances to programme for the section. The section is self
governing, with trained Sea Scouters present
to provide
help and guidance should the Sea Ventures need any. Water activities in this
section are tailored to suit what the
young people
want to do as they have complete control over the organisation of those
activities. Our Venture Sea Scout
section
meets on Monday nights.
Rovers:
Rover
Sea Scouts is a brand new section being rolled out nationally from April 2010.
This will be a section for 18, 19 and 20
year olds.
Members of this section can also simultaneously become Sea Scouters in other
sections and start the appropriate
training.
Building on the self governance of the Venture Sea Scout section, young adults
in this section can spread their
wings
and organise ever more adventurous activities for themselves. Our Group
anticipates the opening up of our first Rover
Sea
Scout section very soon.
